Profile of
Philippe Campus

I became a Certified Passive House Consultant (CPHC) at the end of 2011. It was my most demanding accomplishment since receiving my architect’s license in Connecticut in 1982.

I initially earned a diploma of Architect from the Ecole Nationale Supérieure d’ Architecture in Belgium, where I grew up.   Afterward, I received a Master’s in Environmental Design at the Yale University School of Architecture.

Then I started designing houses, including several passive solar homes, was a contractor for a while, and for a few years worked for other architects until I opened my practice in Branford, Connecticut in 1986.

I have continued training, taking courses at the Harvard Graduate School of Design, among others. I am now certified by both the US and by the International Passive House Institutes, and a member of the New England Sustainable Energy Association.   In addition, I am a registered Interior Designer.

Community involvement, another aspect of my career, has led me to give several lectures on renewable energy, both in Connecticut and in Belgium, to co- chair the AIA, CT’s Committee On The Environment for several years, and for a few years recently, to chair the Town of Guilford’s Design Review Committee.

Now, I specialize in Passivehouses and remodelings, all the way to Net Zero; and in “Near Passive houses”, that foster greater comfort and healthy indoor air quality, using very low-energy, including renewable sources (geothermal and solar), which also reduces the carbon footprint. It is often the better alternative for the projects I do on sensitive sites.

My latest Passivehouse won the 2015 Hobie Award for the “Most Energy Efficient house” in Connecticut. I have also designed many medical and professional offices, several restaurants, many condominiums and even renovated a state prison. Moreover, I have an excellent track record of getting variances for properties with difficult zoning problems.

Houses I designed are in various states including: Connecticut, New York, Massachusetts, Colorado, as well as in the US Virgin Islands, France, and Belgium. Some of my work has been published in This Old House, Food and Wine, The Hartford Courant, The New Haven Register, and Yankee Magazine.
